This week’s topic: Top Ten Series I’ve Yet to Finish
So many series, so little time. Since a couple series have done well, it seems impossible to find a standalone novel these days (and if you stop by regularly, you know I’m annoyed by this). Everyone wants in on the trilogy success…or something. There are several series I haven’t finished yet because the author hasn’t written the next one yet (I’m not including those), but there are also some I’ve just dropped due to lack of interest (or fear the author will never finish the series so why should I?!).
The Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin — I read the first two books and loved them, so what happened? Well, I waited too long to start the third because now I don’t remember what happened in the second. I’m slowly refreshing my memory via the Tor.com reread.
The Matched Trilogy by Ally Condie — I didn’t love Matched so I might never finish this series.
The Gemma Doyle series by Libba Bray — I have no excuses here. I own the series, have read the first two, and the third is just sitting there waiting. I blame wedding planning.
The Chemical Garden Trilogy by Lauren DeStefano — I thought Wither was a complete story and still don’t understand the need for a sequel. Another one I probably will not finish.
The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice — Interview with a Vampire is still one of my favorite books, but the rest of them I just lost interest. I think I read up through The Tale of the Body Thief...
The Alex Cross series by James Patterson — I read the first few in high school (I read quite a bit of Patterson’s novels in HS), but I lost interest. I mean, Alex Cross is kind of old, right? I’ve read most of another Patterson series (Women’s Murder Club), but I haven’t read the latest and I probably won’t…the last one I read was awful.
The Caster Chronicles by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl — Read the first one last year…I have the next two, I just got distracted by other books.
The Kitty Norville series by Carrie Vaughn — Again, I have the series, but have been distracted by other books.
Graceling Realm series by Kristin Cashore — When I found out the next book after Graceling was a “prequel/companion”, I gave up on the series.
The Kent Family Chronicles by John Jakes — I read at least five of the books in this series, but eventually it became so formulaic I moved on to more interesting reads (sadly, I think this is around the time I attempted Lord of the Rings and dropped it after reading 1.5 of the books.)
