Reading Slump = Sad Times

My friend Anbolyn over at Gudrun’s Tights posted about her own reading slump earlier this week…and DUDE! I understand and it really stinks. I started The Casual Vacancy on September 28th…I’m still not finished. This weekend I thought I’d pick up something else (America Pacifica) to see if it would reignite my need to read. Nope. I’d rather play Bejeweled Blitz and take pictures of my cats than read anything I’ve got sitting on my nightstand (which is especially sad considering I have some pretty awesome books sitting there).

Part of the issue is that I’m still dealing with wedding madness. Starting a book a week before my wedding chock-full of characters probably wasn’t the best idea and now I still have ‘thank yous’ to send out plus lots of borrowed items to return. There’s just a lot going on. (Or maybe I’m just reading less than ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC books?)

I think what’s even more disappointing is that I’m not even enjoying the audio book I’m listening to. I kind of knew I wouldn’t…It’s HP & the Chamber of Secrets. My least favorite HP book. It’s simply filled with one too many annoying characters. I mean, Dobby drives me bonkers and Lockhart is even worse. When reading it, I can just skip right over their annoying tirades, but listening! They’re even MORE annoying. Don’t get me wrong, Jim Dale is still a GREAT narrator, but listening to Dobby and Lockhart (and even Colin) is worse than just reading them. Luckily, it’s short…it’ll be over soon.

Any suggestions/recommendations to get me out of this slump? (And aren’t my kittehs wonderfully photogenic? They should totally be on America’s Next Top Model: Cat Edition.)

  1. Your cats are incredibly cute! I especially love the ginger one. Always had a soft spot for them.
Hmm. I’m going to recommend to you a couple of fantastic books I read this year – The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and I Shall Wear Midnight by Terry Pratchett. They’re incredible and I have a feeling they might help you out of your slump. I’ve actually been recommending them to everyone because that’s how much I loved them, haha.
