Top Ten Tuesday: Kick-Ass Heroines

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created over at The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten list and everyone is invited to share their answers. If you’re interested, head on over to The Broke and the Bookish to take a peek at upcoming Top Ten Topics.

This week’s topic: Top Ten Kick-Ass Heroines

Darla Edmunds from Ashfall — She’s like a lady-MacGyver and totally badass. Just the kind of person I’d want on my side when a supervolcano erupts.

Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games — Seriously? Do I even need to explain?

Scarlett O’Hara from Gone with the Wind — I don’t always agree with her methods, but she’s a woman that refuses to fail. If she were a Tribute, I’m pretty sure she would have given Katniss a run for her money.

Alexia Tarabotti from the Parasol Protectorate series — She carries a parasol and isn’t afraid to use it to kick some bad guy butt.

Daenerys Targaryen from the Song of Ice and Fire — I haven’t finished this series, so it could all go downhill for Dany in the future. But in the first two books, she definitely proves she’s pretty kick-ass and she’s only like…umm…thirteen?

Arya Stark from the Song of Ice and Fire — She’s a tiny little girl and she kills MEN, ya’ll. She’s just amazing.

Georgia Mason from the Newsflesh trilogy — She’s a newsie, but she still carries a massive amount of weapons and kills zombies.

Alicia Donadio from The Passage — Technically, the heroine is Amy, but Alicia kills virals with blades and crossbows. Amy just talks to them in her head and ages slowly. Alicia chases the fight and (I’m pretty sure) she’s not afraid of anything.

Hermione Granger from Harry Potter — Yeah, those boys wouldn’t survive without Hermione.

Elizabeth Bennet from Pride & Prejudice — Whether she’s kickin’ zombie butt or sans zombies, she’s not afraid to stand up for herself in a time when women weren’t supposed to have opinions OR to turn down a marriage proposal from not one, but TWO men.

  1. We have Katniss and Alexia in common – yay! And your descriptions of Darla from Ashfall and Dany & Arya from the Ice & Fire series make me want to read those books immediately. Awesome list!
