Now on to my week!
I finished Gunpowder & Cinnamon by Eli Brown this week — it was a slow start, but I liked the combination of adventure and food. About halfway through, I started to connect a little with the characters. By the end, I was teary-eyed. Not at all what I expected, but a fun read. Perfect for summer (and especially appropriate if you have the opportunity to read it on a boat).
I finally got to a point in MaddAddam where it started making sense. It’s very different from the previous two books in the series, but I think I understand the pattern of the story now so it should be a much faster read going forward…I hope.
I started The Silent Wife — another Gone Girl readalike — and I got a little bored. Unlikeable characters is one thing, but these people seem to be something else.
Our next book club pick is The Submission by Amy Waldman. I went by B&N to pick up a copy and was very excited to discover it on the Buy 1, Get 1 1/2 Off shelves! I’m sure you guys have noticed, but I love buying books at Barnes & Noble because of the oh-so-helpful receipts they give me. This time they recommended 4 additional titles by Kate Atkinson and one title that could actually be considered a HELPFUL recommendation. Is their system improving or is this a fluke? I’m going with fluke. (When She Woke by Hillary Jordan is a FANTASTIC book though, so props to the algorithm for recommending it. I also noticed a display for Fin & Lady so B&N is at least recommending fantastic books this month.)
Other than that, nothing terribly exciting happening. Well, other than my niece that was a tiny baby just yesterday is starting Kindergarten TOMORROW!
Time goes by too fast sometimes. I’m not ready for her to grow up, but it’s already happened, you know? She used to be chubby and squishy and now she’s a tiny person that loves Froyo, having her hair curled, and accessories.
We all grow-up at some point, I just wish time would stop going by SO FAST.
